Katie Mavromati
ΚΑΙΤΗ ΜΑΥΡΟΜΜΑΤΗ
Katie Mavromati was born in Alexandria, Egypt, of Greek parents. She graduated in Graphic Arts from the Athens Institute of Technology (Doxiads School). In 1973 she went to Paris and studied Painting and Ceramics at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Appliques, and Painting at the workshop of artist Pierre Matthey at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts, for three years on an EOMMEX scholarship.
She has had ten solo exhibitions of her work, at Galerie Zygos, Athens, 1982, 1984, 1987; at the Ianos Gallery, Thessaloniki, 1989; Espace Kreonidis, Athens, 2001; Hansen Cultural Center, Patras, 2004; Skoufa Gallery, Athens, 2006; Cultural Center of the Embassy of Egypt, Athens, 2007; Marika Kotopouli Museum, Athens, 2009; Art Café «Filion», Athens, 2011; and Chrysothemis Gallery, Chalandri.
She has participated in several group exhibitions in Greece, France, Cyprus, England, Bulgaria, Russia and the United States. She represented Greece in three international exhibitions in Paris, Monte Carlo and Brignoles, France. In 1983 she was chosen among ten Greek artists for the exhibition at the headquarters of the European Commission "Young European Artists, in Brussels. On July 4th, 1986, her work "Rendezvous" was selected for the cover of the Style section of the Washington Post, illustrating an article on the Zygos Gallery of Washington, D.C.
Her work can be found at the Vorres Museum, the European Parliament, the Municipal Gallery of Patras, the Gallery of Contemporary Art of Christos and Sophia Moschandreou, the E.L.I.A., and several private collections in Greece and abroad. In 2006 she was awarded a medal by the Cultural Attache of Egypt in Athens for her contribution in arts and letters.
