The Suitors of Penelope

Gold-plated masks portraying some of the suitors of Penelope, in ancient Ithaca, but also other works of sculptor Ioannis Bardis were exhibited in a creative dialog with the work "Penelope" by Dimitris Talaganis. The exhibition was inaugurated by renowned art collector, and founder of the Vorres Museum, the late Ion Vorres.
Ioannis Bardis was born in Athens, in 1947. He studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts, graduating in the art of bronze sculpture with distinction, and then at the workshop of marble sculpting. He has had over 27 solo shows of his work and participated in over 40 group exhibitions and 3 Sculpture Bienalle exhibitions. There are numerous works of his in public spaces throughout Greece, including many oversize statues of public figures, several busts and 4 monuments. There are also numerous works of his in museums, public and private collections in Greece and abroad. He has received a considerable number of awards and distinctions. He is a member of the Artists' Chamber.
Several art critics and art historians have written on his work, including Beatrice Speliadis, Dora Eliopoulou-Rogan, Thanassis Moutsopoulos and fellow artist, the late Dimitris Talaganis.
